TRAVEL SNAPSHOT

Cambodia is a stunning country filled with ancient temples, beautiful green scenery, and loads of history. It is the perfect destination for budget travelers hoping to have a more culturally immersive experience. The backpack scene is wonderful and you will be sure to meet tons of people from all over the globe.

From the spectacular temples of Angkor Wat, the haunting history surrounding the Killing Fields near Phnom Penh, the bright green refreshing country-side, to the luxurious white sand beaches of Koh Rong, Cambodia has a little something for everyone.

IMPORTANT INFO

Language: The official language of Cambodia is Khmer. It is also sometimes called Cambodian. Most locals I met spoke at least a bit of English.

Currency: Cambodia’s national currency is the Cambodia Riel (KHR). However, most places accept US dollars, so you do not need to exchange much. Most places take international credit cards, but if you are traveling to more rural areas you should definitely carry cash.

Money: Like I said, most places accept US dollars, so you do not need to exchange much unless you are not from the US. There are plenty of ATMs all over with easy access to cash.

Electric: Cambodia operates on a voltage of 230V and a standard frequency of 50 Hz. Plugs types are A, C, and G. I recommend having a universal adapter.

Safety: I never had any issues with safety or theft in Cambodia. However, it is always important to take precautions, especially if you are traveling alone.

Weather: The best time to visit Cambodia is between November to March. The weather is moderate to warm and there is not much rain.
