Chakras are points of pure healing energy (otherwise known as prana) that are located across various parts of our body. This energy acts as a life force connecting our mind, body, and spirit. When our chakras are balanced, we are at peace with ourselves and are in a more fulfilled state of existence.

There are 7 main chakras- the root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus chakra, the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye chakra, and the crown chakra.

In this post, I will be running through everything you need to know about the third eye chakra.

Sanskrit Name: Ajna

Color: Indigo

Element: Light

 

Where is the Third Eye Chakra located?

The throat chakra is located in the middle of the forehead, above your brows. 

 

What does the Third Eye Chakra do?

As the sixth of the 7 major chakras, the throat chakra is more geared towards spiritual matters (while the first half are more geared towards physical matters). The third eye chakra is focused on intelligence, intuition, self-awareness, and insight. It dictates your ability to make decisions and guide yourself on your life’s path. 

 

How do you know if your Third Eye Chakra is out of balance?

When your third eye chakra is balanced, you will be in harmony with your intuition and wisdom. Your connection to the spiritual will be stronger, allowing you to have an increased perception and awareness of yourself and others. Your imagination will be heightened as well as your memory and your ability to recall dreams. 

When the third eye chakra is unbalanced, you may feel disconnected from yourself and your intuition. You may feel paranoid, spaced-out, foggy-headed, and confused. An underactive third eye chakra might cause you to have a lack of imagination, an inability to make decisions, and indecisiveness about the future. You can also have physical symptoms, such as poor vision and memory. An overactive third eye chakra may cause an increased obsession with spiritual matters, to an unhealthy degree. Paranoia, hallucinations, and nightmares are common. 

Other physical symptoms of an unbalanced third eye chakra include headaches, migraines, scalp pain, eye or vision problems, seizures, mental illness, and other neurological disorders. 

 

How to balance your Third Eye Chakra

There are many things you can do to help with balancing the third eye chakra. One of the most effective methods is incorporating meditation into your daily routine. Other activities such as yoga, aromatherapy, and eating balanced foods also help. In order for the mind to operate at top capacity, it is critical to get enough sleep at night. Certain crystals carry a particular frequency that will work towards opening your third eye. 

You must work towards actively facing the present moment and not numbing your emotions. Certain stimulants such as alcohol and drugs should be used in moderation. You must work towards being more present and aware in your life. Slow down. Go for walks, stare out the window, and just be. You will notice that when your body slows down, so does your mind- and then everything becomes more focused.

It is also important to note that in order to achieve a balanced third eye, your other chakras should be balanced as well. This will make achieving your goals way easier. Check out my other articles on how to balance the chakras. 

 

Foods 

Food is a physical entity composed of a kind of energy that we put in our bodies. This energy has the ability to become us- therefore, it is important to be mindful about what sorts of energies we are putting into our bodies. There are some specific foods that have very healing energy for the third eye chakra:

  • Fruits and veggies: purple sweet potatoes, blackberries, grapes, chia seeds, blueberries, figs, eggplants, purple cabbage, prunes, dates, raisins
  • Other: dark chocolate

 

Crystals

Crystals have their own specific energy and frequency. Meditation or being surrounded by certain frequencies can help alleviate the block on your third eye chakra and balance it. You can buy a crystal starter kit for chakra meditation or buy crystals individually based on their unique properties. Here is a list of helpful crystals for balancing your throat chakra:

Amethyst – Intuition 

Lapis lazuli– Enlightenment, self-awareness

Selenite – Calming, clarity, intuition

Quartz – Spiritual growth, wisdom

 

I recommend choosing whichever ones call to you the most. 

 

Essential oils

Aromatherapy is another method to help balance your third eye chakra. Certain scents or oils mixed into your bath can do wonders for you. Here is a list of essential oils for balancing your third eye chakra:

Clary Sage – contemplation, reduces stress, calming

Frankincense –  reduces anxiety and stress, calming

Lemongrass – relieves stress, anxiety, and depression

Rosemary – improves mental functions, calming, 

Sandalwood – awareness, relaxing, meditative

Patchouli – relaxing, relieves stress, eases headaches and colds

Affirmations

It can be incredibly effective to use affirmations when healing your third eye chakra. Speak them to yourself when you wake up or before you sleep- look into the mirror like you are talking to yourself. Try to take what you say as a core belief.

I am connected to my life’s purpose. 

I live my spiritual truth.
