TRAVEL SNAPSHOT
Indonesia is a magnificent array of islands spread out across the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is home to some of the most exciting adventures and the most beautiful natural scenery you may ever see in your life.
Known most famously for its island Bali, Indonesia sports both luxury and budget travel options. Whether you want to lay around a stunning resort, meet new friends at a budget hostel, scuba dive with turtles, learn to surf, trek a volcano, or explore various beautiful temples, Indonesia has it all.
IMPORTANT INFO
Language: There are over 300 native languages spoken in Indonesia. While Bahasa Indonesian is the official language, the most common spoken (30% of people) is Javanese.
Currency: Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). As of 2021, $1 USD = 14,442 IDR.
Money: International credit and debit cards are widely accepted in more touristic areas. However, in more rural areas it is wise to carry cash. There are numerous ATMs around the islands that allow for international withdrawals.
Electric: Indonesia operates on a voltage of 230V and a standard frequency of 50 Hz. Plugs types include C and F. I recommend bringing a universal adapter.
Safety: Indonesia is generally considered safe. I did not have any issues traveling solo while there. However, it is wise to take precautions, especially if you are alone.
Weather: The best time to visit Indonesia is May through September, which is dry season. July and August can sometimes be hot, overcrowded, and more expensive. However, I went to Indonesia in December and had a great time during the rainy season.
