Chakras are points of pure healing energy (otherwise known as prana) that are located across various parts of our body. This energy acts as a life force connecting our mind, body, and spirit. When our chakras are balanced, we are at peace with ourselves and are in a more fulfilled state of existence.
There are 7 main chakras- the root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus chakra, the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye chakra, and the crown chakra.
In this post I will be running through everything you need to know about the sacral chakra.
Sacral Chakra
Sanskrit Name: Svadhisthana
Color: Orange
Element: Water
Where is the sacral chakra located?
The sacral chakra is located just below the navel.
What does the sacral chakra control?
The sacral chakra is the 2nd of our 7 chakras and is mainly focused on sexuality, creativity, pleasure, and joy. It has a large role in the making of your emotions and feelings. How you relate to yourself as well as others is all part of the sacral chakra.
How do you know if your sacral chakra is out of balance?
You will feel instability in your emotions if your sacral chakra is out of balance. If it is blocked, you will feel isolated, uncreative, anxious, lonely, detached, jealous, insecure, and have low sexual drive. It may be difficult to express your emotions. If it is over-active, your emotions will be overwhelming. There will be many highs and lows, and not a lot of balance. You may turn obsessive and controlling. Your sexual energies may be put to bad use.
Physical manifestations of an unbalanced sacral chakra may include issues with your sexual and reproductive organs. Urinary and kidney problems are common, as well as pelvic, hip, and lower back pain.
When your sacral chakra is balanced, you have a good relationship with people in your life, your environment, and yourself. Your emotions are stable and your sexual energy is strong. You may also have stronger creative feelings and a better intuition.
How to balance your sacral chakra
One of the best ways to work towards balancing your sacral chakra is meditation. Meditation can be extremely healing for your chakras when you focus on the energy and its movement within you.
Since a blocked sacral chakra stores lots of emotions in the hips, it can be healing to open them up and move them. Dancing, yoga, and exercise is incredibly beneficial.
Journaling is another way to release some of your pent up energies. It is good to write down what you are feeling and how your emotions are out of balance. It can also help to talk with people close to you about your feelings.
As a water element, it also helps to take a bath, go for a swim, and relax by the ocean.
Incorporating orange into your life is another way to be more mindful about your sacral chakra. Clothes, jewelry, house decorations- anything works.
Foods, crystals, essential oils, and yoga are some of the most effective ways to balance chakras.
Foods
Food is a physical entity composed of a kind of energy that we put in our bodies. This energy has the ability to become us- therefore, it is important to be mindful about what sorts of energies we are putting into our body. There are some specific foods that have very healing energy for the sacral chakra:
- Fruits and veggies: black cherry tomatoes, peppers, peaches, gala apples, oranges, mangos, carrots, sweet potatoes, apricots, papayas, pumpkins, mandarins, etc.
- Proteins: oysters, clams, fish, nuts, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, etc.
Crystals
Crystals have their own specific energy and frequency. Meditation or being surrounded by certain frequencies can help alleviate the block on your sacral chakra and balance it. You can buy a crystal starter kit for chakra meditation or buy crystals individually based on their unique properties. Here is a list of helpful crystals for balancing your sacral chakra:
