Greece is an incredible country and undoubtedly one of my favorite destinations in Europe. There are so many ways you can travel amongst the many beautiful Greek Islands in the sparkling cerulean waters of the Mediterranean, but the best by far is through a multi-day Greek Island cruise

A Greek Island cruise will take you from Athens to various ports around Greece where you can admire the stunning black sand beaches, unequivocally beautiful panoramic views of blue and white seaside towns, and unbelievable sunsets.

You’ll experience the vast history of the ancient Greek epoch as you take in the numerous ruins. You’ll dance the night away in some of the island’s best nightclubs. And you’ll eat some of the best Greek food you’ll ever experience in your life!

Read on to learn about why nothing quite beats a cruise as the superior mode of traversing the Greek islands.

Trust Me, Nothing Beats a Greek Island Cruise

1. Views from the open sea are unlike any others.

If you think the views of Greece are stunning from land, you won’t believe how beautiful it is from the water. There is something almost ethereal about looking at a beautiful island from far away.

As you sail into port, you feel like you are the main character in a movie (Mama Mia, perhaps?), like you’re about to start a brand new adventure.

2. The mere convenience of living on a boat will blow your mind.

Luggage who? When you live on a boat, you have the amaaaaazing luxury of not having to haul all your belongings from hotel to hotel. It’s seriously suite-life-on-deck vibes but travel edition.

One of the worst parts of hopping from island to island is the amount of time you spend packing and repacking your suitcase. This is so annoying, especially if you squeeze in as many cute outfits as possible- and the more you buy, the harder it is to fit everything back in!

Avoid the hassle of flights and ferry rides, lugging around your stuff, and checking into numerous hotels. Take a cruise instead!

3. Oh my god, have you ever partied on a boat sailing through the Mediterranean?

If you’ve never experienced a party on a cruise through the Mediterranean, get ready. Honestly, cruises are so much fun even if you never get off the boat.

You can spend your night dancing and drinking cocktails with fellow cruise-goers as you peer out at the beautiful islands in the distance and wonder ‘when did life get so good?’

What to Expect From a Greek Island Cruise

Most Greek Island cruises stop at the same ports, though you can choose which ones you prefer as there are multiple options. However, these are the most popular destinations. If it is your first time in Greece, you’ll most likely end up going to one or more of these ports:

  • Athens
  • Santorini
  • Mykonos
  • Crete
  • Rhodes

Not Enough Time or Money for a Cruise But Still Want to Sail Greece?

For those who are short on either time or money, there are other ways you can experience sailing the Greek Islands. There are plenty of day tours from Athens and other ports that will sail you to a variety of fun and exciting stops.

I once took a catamaran tour from Santorini and spent the entire day jumping off the boat into beautiful crystal-clear water, drinking all-inclusive cocktails, and dancing to top hits. It was so much fun and I highly recommend it.

Me on a day tour from Santorini! I love catamarans.

I booked my Greek Island tour through Viator, which has a number of cheap deals leaving from all ports. There are also scuba and snorkel options, glass-bottom boats, fishing charters, and more!

Have Fun on Your Greek Island Cruise!

Whether you decide to book a multi-day cruise or sail the beautiful waters for just a day, you’re going to have an unforgettable time. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures and enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime views from out at sea.
